Before editing the photo on Photoshop I analysed the photo with what I would like to improve and how I believe it would catch the reader’s eye. So the first step I took was to crop the original image to as you can see above, I managed to crop out the small lens glare I had on the left hand side and also a corner of the building that I believe didn’t contrast well with the rest of the image.
The next step I took was to adjust the tone of the photo because I felt that a lot of colour in the photo was needed to be kind of brought back to life in which I could do through Photoshop. And now that I have done it, it has made a gateway for me to edit the photos colours a lot more to help the lights colours more distinct and also for all the colours to contrast well.
The last form of editing I did to the photo was to adjust the Vibrance and also the Saturation. The reason why I did this is because I wanted to bring a slight HDR affect into the photo and really bring out the colours that might have been lost in the previous editing stage of adjusting the Brightness and Contrast. Once this stage is done I then re-analysed the photo to how it was before and how I has edited it and I believe I have made the correct impact for the photo.
The next adjustment I made was to the Brightness and Contrast of the photo as you can see in the sliders below. I thought that if I decrease the brightness of the photo and increase the contrast that the focal point of the photo being the wheel would stand out a lot more from the background so I experimented with this technique until I believed that I got the right effect for the photo.
Exposure Editing
For this topic it required me learning how long i would need to adjust my shutter speed for and also nearly getting arrested. By changing the shutter speeds and positions i was able to create some creative photos which i wanted to do with my composition question. So I believe through the use of editing I will be able to bring out the best within my photos.
This is the first Long Exposure shot I tested out because I researched what to use long exposure with and I figure to photograph a Ferris wheel at night, that I would need to move close and use a wide-angle lens to get as much detail as possible but in my case with limited supplies I zoomed my camera fully out so that I got as much in the frame. I then placed my camera on my tripod so that it kept my camera still because i wanted all the elements to be sharp, which was also supported by my chosen aperture of f/11 and set my camera to TV as this is the Shutter Priority on my camera, then I was able to set a shutter speed according to the speed of the lighted Ferris wheel which was 30 seconds.
I believe because of the moving light from the Long exposure I believe that it is the focal point because I have made it the sharpest part of the frame through editing on photo. However the over parts of the photo once again play a part in the photo because I have toned them down which helps increase the sharpness and brightness of the Ferris wheel. Because of the detail and brightness within the Ferris makes the long exposure so significant and different to normal shots because of the uniqueness, this form of photography also makes it very easy to catch the viewer’s eye which is what I was going for because at the end of the day the way you present your shot through
Composition or these little elements judge if you are going to make a hit with the photo or not. My long exposure is based around Alex Wise’s work as well as Hubert Leszczynski’s work as I believe their work is a really good example for long-exposure in which I tried to bring into all my portfolio for long-exposure.
